It’s summer time. And a nice time to invite friends and relatives for vacations. But not sure where to take them sightseeing. Help is at hand. Boston Globe has made things easier for you. It has compiled a list of places to see and activities to do in and around Boston, especially on weekends. A picnic at Walden Pond, visit to a theme park or kayaking on the Charles River. Take your pick.

Mapping Locals and Tourists

Posted by Yoshita Singh on July 15, 2010

A California-based computer programmer uses photos on Picasa and Flickr to identify places that are frequented by tourists and locals in a city.

Eric Fischer, 37, tracked about 650,000 Boston photos that people had uploaded to Flickr and Picasa websites. What he got were maps that divide the city into two areas – one for the tourists and one for locals.

He uses red dots on the map to indicate where more tourists go. Blue dots are for places frequented by locals.

Interesting. Read the Boston Globe article here.
