My Wishlist 5.0 – Five Places I Want To See In Boston

Posted by Yoshita Singh on July 26, 2010

As I explored the off-the-beaten-path Boston, I learnt about some really fun places to see and fun things to do in and around Beantown. Clearly, Boston has lots to offer. All you need to spare is some time and money. Here are the 5 addresses I want to go to:

Tango Society of Boston

I’m a little biased on this one. I love anything and everything that is associated with the word ‘Tango’ – be it the movie ‘Tango and Cash’ or the dance Tango. You wanna know why? Tango was my pet Pomeranian. He passed away four years ago. Tango was with me for 13 years. The memories I have of him are priceless, to say the least. I remember him everyday and will miss him all my life. And so I put the Tango Society of Boston on top of my Boston itinerary.

The society is a non-profit organization that conducts weekly Argentine Tango dance classes. I particularly liked the idea of ‘Tango by Moonlight,’ an event where people do the Tango under the light of a full moon on the Weeks Memorial Footbridge near Harvard Square. That’s romantic. And also free. You can join in the dance or just sit and watch.

The Hall of Ideas at the Mary Baker Eddy Library

This one sounds really cool. Thanks to hi-tech computer programming, words and ideas literally float around in the Hall of Ideas at the Mary Baker Eddy Library. Quotes are projected on a fountain in the room, on the floor and up the walls before they disappear into thin air. I have got to see this. Am curious to know if I can get one of my ideas float around the hall too. Will ask for sure.

Canoeing and Kayaking on the Charles River

I have never tried my hand at canoeing or kayaking. One of these days I am thinking of picking up a paddle and canoeing in the Charles River. I hear the views that one gets of the city while sailing down the river are breathtaking. Plus canoeing should be fun too.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

I have heard a lot about the picturesque courtyard at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Its ‘After Hours’ sounds like a great way to spend an evening. You can enjoy art, live music and some great cocktails.

Boston Movie Tours

I didn’t know 400 movies and TV shows have been shot in Boston. Want to know all about Hollywood’s love for Boston, then go on a Movie Mile Walking Tour. You’ll get to see the bench Matt Damon and Robin Williams sat on in the movie ‘Good Will Hunting’ as well as the law offices of ‘Ally McBeal’ and ‘Boston Legal.’ The 1½-hour Boston Movie Tour costs $21 for adults, $11 for children and $18 for senior/teens/students.
